Remodelled was initially a digital and physical hybrid exhibition, showcasing a curation of recent innovations in fashion; A collection of fashion endeavours that have successfully achieved an outcome in a different and more engaging way. The exhibition has since been digitised into this site.
The physical aspect of the exhibition included a shared viewing of the documentary “The Artist is Absent” by Alison Chernick, which is linked below. The main purpose of hosting the opening of the exhibition in a physical space was to encourage group conversation, and make Remodelled a shared experience with an inquisitive atmosphere.
Fashion was originally a show of wealth and status. However, creatives and designers have transitioned the art form into a representation of identity, storytelling, and emotion, and have adapted their methods as the world has progressed and changed. Fashion has become an interdisciplinary industry of flexibility and exploration.
As it suggests, the exhibition does focus on the garments themselves, however also aims to bring attention to the way these garments have been displayed. For example, live runways in unconventional venues, unusual photography ideas, or unique and unexpected creative processes. Fashion is also progressively becoming more and more digitised, through technological advancements being incorporated into existing brands, and an increase in accessibility so that people with non-fashion backgrounds are also able to put out work. This collection includes work from illustrators and 3D modelling specialists, who have expanded their practice into the industry of fashion.
Remodelled invites you to learn about some of the most creative ventures in the fashion industry so far, and to ponder the question of what comes next.
This exhibition was curated and designed by Nandita Guda as a part of the RMIT course, Curating, Producing and Exhibiting the Digital in 2023.
